Las Vegas Gambling Tips: Video Keno – Part Three

On The Town With Vegas Vic
By: Victor H. Royer

Welcome to Las Vegas! My name is Victor H. Royer, but everyone just calls me Vegas Vic. I was named after that famous neon sign in Downtown Las Vegas, that cowboy with the hat on top of the Pioneer Club, always waving his hand and beckoning to his long love, Sassy Sally, on the other side of the street. I will be writing a few articles for AccessVegas.com, so I hope you enjoy them.

Video Keno Pay Tables

I have often written that knowing the pay tables for machine-based gambling games is essential, and paramount to your ability to win money. While powerful profits are possible even on games whose statistical profile distinctly classifies them in the “not so good” category, knowing this before playing is equally as important as knowing the information that statistically so classifies them. Just as important is knowing the odds on such machines, and the payback percentages. These are the best possible guidelines that can enable you to make better decisions with your gambling. Although I have stated numerous times that over-reliance on mathematical and statistical profiles of gambling games is not necessarily conducive to the making of profits, I have equally many times stated that knowing such information is crucial. Crucial not just to the understanding of the game, and how it plays, what does what, how, when, and why — but primarily because it allows you to make your own decisions regarding how to play it, for what goals, which bankroll, how long per session, and what you can hope to reasonably expect to achieve as your profit in the limited slice of your exposure to the game.

What are often called statistically “bad” games because their pay tables and payback percentages are not very good, either by themselves or in comparison to other games of their kind or other comparable gambling games that may be available, this does not automatically exclude them from profitable play. The biggest mistake made most often by players who read something about casino games is to immediately become enthralled with the stats, and forget everything to do with winning money. Trying to play casino games in accordance purely and only with the stats is bound to be an exercise in frustration, and a grind to validate statistical theory that will never equal to anything even close to your actual exposure to the game and its events. That is perhaps the greatest fallacy of gambling, and gambling literature, because it promotes such total reliance only on the math and the stats and probabilities, conveniently forgetting that all of that are merely assumptions based on artificially created data produced in laboratory environments under statistical research parameters.

This is dangerous if it is accepted by players and readers as “gospel” and as “absolute truth”, without even an inkling that it may just be nothing more than a useful guideline, and that the real world truth lies in something far less definable and far less enumerated. What is often glossed-over in such approaches and teachings are the millions of disappointments faced by players of casino games everywhere when they play with such mathematical conviction and hence-derived expectations, only to discover that they get nothing like it, or even close to it. Most such players walk away without profit, and often with large losses, shaking their heads and wondering “why”. But that “why” is able to be answered even within these statistical models — the stats will come “close” to the expected theory, but just precisely when no one knows. So, while such players may have played well, and in full accordance with such theories, their results weren’t within the “when”, because their “when” was in that small slice of the vast infinite statistical expanse that the expected results weren’t there at the time they were there — in that precise small, tiny, moment when they played.
