Las Vegas Gambling Tips: Video Keno - Part Two

On The Town With Vegas Vic
By: Victor H. Royer

Welcome to Las Vegas! My name is Victor H. Royer, but everyone just calls me Vegas Vic. I was named after that famous neon sign in Downtown Las Vegas, that cowboy with the hat on top of the Pioneer Club, always waving his hand and beckoning to his long love, Sassy Sally, on the other side of the street. I will be writing a few articles for AccessVegas.com, so I hope you enjoy them.

Video Keno - Part Two

Similarly to Big Board Keno, Video Keno has been equally misunderstood. Although this machine is often among the best paying slots on the casino floor, many casual players have so far avoided this game because they think it's too intimidating, or perhaps because no one has ever explained what a really great, fun, and profitable game this can truly be. With new advances in computer technology, many new variations on Keno games are now possible. There are some versions which also offer a simplified models of the Big Board Keno "way" tickets. Other variations are the very popular Four Card Keno, where you can play more than one ticket at a time, allowing for the perfect "wheel" game.

While many video poker machines pay an average of around 90%, allowing for casino programs and imperfect plays, Video Keno games generally pay at around 92% to 93%. This is very comparable to the $1 reel slot machines, which generally pay around 94%, or 90%-to-92% in some casinos. Most Video Keno games are available in the quarter denomination, and while quarter reel slots often pay back at less than 85%, Video Keno still maintains the average 92% payback, overall. And, while the odds of hitting $1,000.00 for the Royal Flush on the video poker machine are around 41,000-to-1 on an average quarter machine at an investment of $1.25, a hit of 8 out of 10 on a Video Keno machine brings the same $1,000.00 jackpot at an investment of only $1.00, and facing odds of only 7,384-to-1.

I play Video Keno regularly, because it is a money-making game. There are many methods of playing, each with it own profitability equation. It is an easy game to learn, and a very profitable game to play. I hope you too will agree, and enjoy it as much as I do.

Keys to Video Keno

There are two main benefits to Video Keno:

One, that a big jackpot can be won with only one-coin played, and
Two, that the faster the game is played the more chances there are to hit such a pay.

In Video Keno, these are by far the two biggest factors contributing to the profitability of the game. There is a third, and that is the availability of modifying the player's selections. This is possible in Four Card Keno, and allows players to play multiple cards, and even "wheel" their numbers. More on this later. At the time IGT introduced the first Game King models of multi-game video machines, there was still quite a bit of resistance from many casual players. The players' ability to comprehend the benefits of these games were yet to catch up to the technology. The result was that these games became hugely popular among the locals' places around Las Vegas -- the off-Strip casinos that normally cater to people who live and work in Las Vegas. Later, smaller casinos elsewhere in the country, such as tribal casinos in particular, that were often located in remote areas and had a steady clientele from nearby residents also found that these games were extraordinarily popular. This was significantly due to the familiarity factor born out of experimentation that resulted in the players' fear of the machine being overcome.
