Dining Editor Barbara Brown's Culinary Biography
A (soon to be graduate) of the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts here in Las Vegas, she is currently working at Bradley Ogden in Caesars Palace. This highly acclaimed local restaurant (run by the famed chef Bradley Ogden) just won the James Beard Award for the nation's best new restaurant. Barbara is also very involved with Chefs for Kids and was instrumental in the start up of a Las Vegas WCR Chapter (Woman Chefs and Restaurateurs). This organization promotes the education and advancement of women in the restaurant industry and the betterment of the industry as a whole. Dining reviews and culinary writing are just one step in Barbara's long list of career accomplishements. She is working on writing a cookbook (or two), hosting a cooking show, dabbling in the field of personal chef-dom by working in the personal chef field and helping other chefs develop their personal chef skills. She thrives in sharing all of these experiences with other budding culinarians by helping teach the culinary arts. However, her curiosity was not limited to food. Her wanderlust took her to Europe and Asia where she reveled in regional cuisine and collected recipes and cookbooks along the way. The journey continued as she explored Australia and the many islands close to her native New Zealand learning the culture and foods enjoyed by Norfolk Island, Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti, Rarotonga, Tonga, Bali, and New Guinea. In 1983 Barbara's travels brought her to the United States. Her first port of entry was Honolulu, Hawaii. There she was introduced to Asian cooking styles, again collecting recipes and trying out newly learned techniques. And the rest, as they say, is history. Let's join Barbara as she takes you on a magical culinary tour of Las Vegas!
