In addition, you can listen to the air traffic control (ATC) right over your car radio on 88.5 FM at the viewing area. A digital tuner is suggested if possible. Unlike a normal radio station that you can find just by tuning in, this one is hard to find between transmissions. The best times for viewing are mid-days or Friday and Sunday nights. That's when the planes are pouring into town with tourists of arriving to take many of them home. However, since McCarran in one of the 10 busiest airports in the world, almost anytime is a good time to view air traffic there. Note: While the viewing area is situated along the most used (calm wind) runways, the north/south runways are instead used when the winds prevail strongly from those directions and those runways are not visible from the viewing area. Getting there is simple: Head south on the Strip past the end of the major hotels. Sunset Road is about 1.5 miles past the Luxor. You can't miss it -- it's a major street. You will see the stoplights long before you reach it. Turn east on Sunset and go about 2 miles. The viewing area will be on your left. If you pass the AM/PM on your right or if you reach Eastern Ave., you have gone too far. Here's a map to help you out:
