Gold Coast Hotel and Casino is celebrating 8/8/08 with traditional lion dances throughout the casino on what is considered by many cultures to be the luckiest day of the century.
At 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Aug. 8, a Chinese lion dance will weave its way throughout the casino to bring good luck to all in attendance. It is believed that the lion will chase away evil spirits bringing good luck and prosperity. Kung fu practitioners from the Lohan School of Shaolin Las Vegas will perform the dances.
Eight is considered a lucky number in Asian culture because in some regional dialects it sounds like the word "prosper." This year's Summer Olympics in Beijing are scheduled to open on 8/8/08 at 8:08:08 p.m.
Also on 8/8/08 at Gold Coast, Club Coast members are eligible to receive 8X points when playing with their B-Connected card from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Gold Coast Hotel and Casino opened in 1986, and at the time was one of few casino properties to be located west of the Las Vegas Strip. It was the second Coast Casinos property and is owned by Boyd Gaming. Gold Coast, located at 4000 W. Flamingo Road, includes 711 recently renovated guest rooms, an 87,000-square foot casino, a 70-lane bowling center and seven restaurants.
