Introduction: A special exhibit of more than 60 detailed replicas of scientific devices developed by Leonardo da Vinci will be on display for cultural, educational and recreational enjoyment in Henderson, Nevada.

The models are organized in three viewing galleries: transportation, military and mechanical and include hang gliders, a bicycle, a double-hull boat, an air-screw (precursor to the helicopter), a fly wheel, an early tank, a robot, a chamber of mirrors and a movable bridge, among others. Nearly half of all the exhibits are interactive.

Exhibit Details:

8,000 square feet of exhibit space.

Copies of Leonardo's original drawings on display so visitors can compare the drawings and the replica.

Samples of the codices, which are written backwards in Tuscan.

25 interactive exhibits

11 Full-Sized Machines

Docents on hand for tours and explanation.

Introductory film setting Leonardo's life into historical context and highlighting his ideal city.

Reproductions of Leonardo's most popular paintings:  Mona Lisa, the Virgin of the Rocks and the Last Supper are on display in a full-sized replica of a Tuscan Palazzo.

History of These Replica Machines: Original machines were built on commission by a Florence family in the 1950s from a recently discovered codice.  The Artisans of Florence purchased copies of codices and then set about building the replicas from the materials specified in the codices.  If the dimensions were listed on the codices, then they built full-scale replicas.  If the dimensions were not listed, they built models.  These machines come from the Museum of the History of Science in Florence, Italy.
