The National Basketball Association today announced the 53-game schedule for the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS. Games will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas and will feature 21 NBA teams competing over 10 days, from July 11-20.
The showdown in the desert will tip off on Friday, July 11, with four games scheduled at COX Pavilion. Teams slated for action on opening day include the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers (full schedule attached).
"NBA Summer League is an opportunity for the incoming rookie class to get acclimated to the NBA, give teams the chance to evaluate free agents and provide further training for veteran players." said Stu Jackson, Executive Vice President, NBA Basketball Operations.
This year's action will include nine of the top 14 draft picks from the 2008 NBA Draft to be held later this month, including the Minnesota Timberwolves' and the Grizzlies' selections -- the third and fifth picks, respectively.
"NBA Summer League is a great way for fans to see the league's young talent, while having the chance to watch their favorite NBA teams compete in a family-friendly atmosphere," said Gail Hunter, NBA Senior Vice President of Events and Attractions.
NBA TV will broadcast 23 games from Las Vegas as well as provide reports on the Summer League teams, featuring interviews with players, coaches and team executives. In addition to features, game recaps and statistics, NBA.com will also be providing live webcasts of all games.
Joining the above-mentioned teams scheduled to appear in Vegas this summer are the Charlotte Bobcats, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and the Washington Wizards.
