The Cannery Casino & Hotel says goodbye to summer with the End of Summer Bash-Bubblegum Bonanza Concert featuring a host of classic musical acts and loads of food, drink and fun. The festival will take place on Saturday, September 1 beginning at 4 p.m. at The Club, an indoor/outdoor venue located at the Cannery Casino & Hotel. The musical line-up includes such popular acts as The Archies with Ron Dante, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Andrew Gold, The Ohio Express, Alan O'Day and Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods, along with a special guest appearance by Trini Lopez.
Tickets to the concert are free and are available to the public at the Cannery Casino & Hotel's ticket sales counter located at the front desk check-in. The End of Summer Bash has something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the fun musical line-up, there will be plenty of tasty food and ice cold drinks available. Vendors will be selling items like clothing, accessories, and rock n' roll memorabilia. The festival also features a free car show open to all makes of cars and trucks Ron Dante was the real life voice behind the popular fictional band, The Archies. The group hit number one with "Sugar, Sugar," which was the number one selling record in 1969 and earned the group a gold record. The band also reached Top 40 status with other hit singles including "Jingle Jangle," "Bang-Shang-A-Lang" and "Who's Your Baby?" Dante has gone on to produce music with such influential artists as Barry Manilow, Pat Benatar and Cher. The 1910 Fruitgum Company exploded onto the national music scene with their bubblegum pop hit singles, "Simon Says," "1-2-3 Red Light" and "Indian Giver." The band appeared on Dick Clark's American Bandstand, as well as numerous television and radio shows. The group continues to record and tour throughout the United States with the original members. The Ohio Express is one of the true pioneer acts in bubblegum pop history. With vocals by singer/songwriter Joey Levine, the band charted several singles in the Top 40. Their hit singles include "Yummy Yummy Yummy," "Sweeter Than Sugar," "Mercy" and "Down at Lu-Lu's." Son of composer Ernest Gold and vocalist Marni Nixon, Andrew Gold began his music career as a musician, songwriter and producer for many well-known artists. Gold is most known for his hits "Lonely Boy" and "Never Let Her Slip Away." He gained new popularity with the hit single "Thank You for Being a Friend," the theme song for the popular sitcom "The Golden Girls." Singer/songwriter Alan O'Day began his career by writing for several successful notable artists such as Helen Reddy, Cher and the Righteous Brothers. In 1977, his first solo single, "Undercover Angel," vaulted to the top of the charts and sold nearly two million copies. Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods earned a loyal following as an opening act for many of the major artists of the 1960s. The group shot to headliner status with the hit, "Billy, Don't Be A Hero," which sold more than three million copies. Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods followed up this success with a string of other hits such as "Who Do You Think You Are," "House on Telegraph Hill," "The Heartbreak Kid" and "Our Last Song Together." Singer, guitarist and actor Trini Lopez launched into stardom with his number one album, "Trini Lopez at P.J.'s." The album included the hit single "If I Had A Hammer," which shot to number one in 25 countries, along with a popular cover of "La Bamba." Lopez also appeared in several films and TV shows including "Marriage on the Rocks" with Frank Sinatra, "Antonio" and the classic film "The Dirty Dozen." Lopez has recorded more than 50 albums and in 2003 was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame.
