From Vertical Horizon's early beginnings playing coffeehouses in Washington, D.C., the band has continuously stretched itself both musically and otherwise.  As Georgetown University undergrads, Keith Kane and Matt Scannell discovered kindred musical spirits in one another.  They recorded three independent albums – There and Back Again, Running On Ice and Live Stages, solidified their line-up with drummer Ed Toth and bassist Sean Hurley and later signed with RCA in 1998.

In 1999, Vertical Horizon released their RCA debut album, Everything You Want, which continued the band's progression toward an edgier, electric style while retaining its focus on solid songwriting.  The double-platinum-selling album yielded four singles including "We Are," "You're a God," "Best I Ever Had" and the title track "Everything You Want," which became the most played song on Top 40 radio in 2000.  It reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 as well as Adult Top 40 charts.  The song won a Radio Music Award and two Billboard Music Awards while the band earned a Billboard Music Video Award for Best New Artist Modern Rock Video for "You're a God."

Produced by John Shanks, their most recent album, GO, offers a sublime unity of thought and melody.  Tracks like "Forever" and "Inside," with their resonant string sections, take Vertical Horizon to previously unexplored musical terrain.  Others, like "Goodbye Again" and "When You Cry," examine the hard labor of building human connections.
