Bonnie Tyler was born Gaynor Hopkins into a large family. Music played a great role in the Hopkins household, and the young Tyler grew up listening to the Motown records of the era and the raw power of two singers who would have a huge influence on her future singing style – Tina Turner and Janis Joplin. In 1972, Tyler formed her own band called "Imagination" and performed with them in pubs and clubs all over South Wales.
In 1977, selling more than six million copies worldwide, Tyler's single "It's A Heartache" reached number five in the United States, number four in the UK and number one in most of Europe. Some of Tyler's other hits include "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" and "Holding Out For A Hero" which was also featured on the "Footloose" soundtrack.
