RA Sushi Bar Restaurant, located at the Fashion Show Mall, invited local media outlets to participate in RA N' ROLL, a competition to create, name and submit an original recipe for a sushi roll. On Wednesday, August 1, a panel of local celebrity judges including Nathan Burton, Anthony Cools, Amazing Johnathan and his assistant Psychic Tanya, Ronn Lucas and Kevin Burke, sampled five rolls RA had selected as finalists. Considering overall taste, presentation and creativity of name, the judges then named the roll created by KPLV – FM 93.1 The Party, "Rollin' with Whoopi," as the winner.
"Rollin' With Whoopi" features shrimp tempura wrapped in rice and seaweed, with salmon, Ahi tuna and avocado on top. The whole roll is drizzled with wasabi sauce. "Rollin' with Whoopi" will be featured on RA Sushi's menu through Labor Day and is priced at $9, with $2 from the sale of every roll being donated to Positively Kids. The local non-profit's mission is to create the premier pediatric nursing facility in Nevada, providing 24-hour care, support and therapies to medically fragile and terminally ill children and their families.
"As soon as I heard about RA N' ROLL, I knew we could create the winning recipe," said Marisa Bilkiss, Director of Marketing & Promotions for 93.1 The Party. "We are so excited to have the opportunity to raise awareness of and benefit Positively Kids."
93.1 The Party named their roll in honor of Whoopi Goldberg, the host of "Wake Up with Whoopi," which airs on the station Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. The show, based in New York City, is also syndicated in 14 other major markets. When Whoopi heard of 93.1 The Party's win, she immediately wrote a $1,000 check for Positively Kids and asked if she could sample "Rollin' with Whoopi." RA Sushi is coordinating efforts to accommodate Whoopi's request during her live radio show this Friday, August 10.
