Clark County students, who were treated to a party for having won a recent tiger cub naming contest, were surprised today when Siegfried & Roy showed up to congratulate them in person. Star and Celestial, the two cubs officially being named today, also made a surprise appearance to the delight of the children.
The first contest involved the Clark County School District (CCSD) with 60 classes participating. A first grade class from Moore Elementary and a third grade class from Charlotte Hill Elementary both submitted the winning name, Star, for one of the beautiful female striped-white tiger cubs. Each CCSD elementary school class was eligible to submit up to three names and had to explain the reason behind the submission.
"We are very fortunate to be able to include Clark County School District children in the naming of one of the newest members to our animal family," said Siegfried.
Roy said, "It's great to be able to combine children's enthusiasm with the spirit that our magnificent creatures possess. It's vital to continue educating a new generation needed to care for our planet's animals."
The Mirage hotel guests and visitors to Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat also were invited to name one of the snow white female tiger cubs. Siegfried & Roy selected Celestial for the name, which was submitted by Jackie Topacio from Cerritos, California and Lori Diaz from Ocoee, Florida.
Both tiger cubs were born on April 29, 2008 and have taken residence at Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden at The Mirage. Star and Celestial are joined by their golden brother, Svengali, and their sisters Chakra and Cosmo.
