Las Vegas will say goodbye to an old friend when Nevada Palace closes its doors before re-opening as the brand new Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel this summer, but local residents will have an opportunity to make a lasting impression on the community and area hospital patients by giving blood at the property's final blood drive on Friday, Feb. 29 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Each donation can save up to three lives; therefore donors will touch not just one life, but multiple lives for simply sparing an hour of their day. Nevada Palace will be giving out a special commemorative medallion to everyone who gives blood while United Blood Services will be providing t-shirts. Additionally, donors can be among the first to eat at the brand new Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel, which opens late this summer, with a meal voucher for two provided exclusively to donors.
"Cannery Casino Resorts has always been active participants in UBS blood drives," said Peter Maksymec, general manager of Nevada Palace. "It gives us great pride knowing that we are helping to save lives."
UBS relies on volunteer blood donors everyday to consistently meet local hospital needs, and February is a great month to start donating being National Heart Month. Donating blood is good for the heart in more ways than one – donors will feel great helping others, and they will receive a free cholesterol screening as an added bonus. Many people have found underlying health issues and have received treatment before any serious problems could occur.
