Nevada Ballet Theatre is honored to announce singer, actress and comedian Bette Midler as its Woman of the Year for the 2009 Black & White Ball.  "The Divine Miss M" will be honored on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Star of stage and screen, Midler has entertained audiences for years with her distinctive voice and stellar acting.

Surrounded by arts supporters as well as local dignitaries and celebrities, this iconic performer will accept her 'Woman of the Year' award in the Palace Ballroom at Caesars Palace, following an elegant evening of cocktails, dinner and lively entertainment.

Nevada Ballet Theatre Co-Founder and Co-Chair Nancy Houssels says, "Nevada Ballet Theatre is so excited to welcome Ms. Midler back to Las Vegas and honor her at Caesars Palace in January." She adds, "I know this will be a memorable Black & White Ball."

Since 1985, The Black & White Ball has been a societal main stay in the city of glitz and glamour. Honoring legendary females who have positively impacted the performing arts, this annual fundraiser supports the state's largest professional ballet company.

Generating significant media attention, The Black & White Ball began garnering national recognition when it honored Debbie Reynolds in 2000. Since then, articles have appeared in "People," and "The Los Angeles Times," among others.

In her short time as a Vegas headliner, Midler has already captured Las Vegas' heart with her new show, The Showgirl Must Go On.  Adored by millions, Midler's bold and boisterous personality first catapulted her to fame in the 1970's.

From her humble beginnings performing in off-Broadway shows and cabarets throughout New York City, Midler is known throughout the world for her charm, wit and unique brand of humor.

Undeniable vocal talent and roles in some of Tinsel Town's most memorable films such as The Rose and Beaches, have afforded Midler almost every honor in the entertainment industry – four Grammy Awards, an Emmy, a Tony, four Golden Globes as well as two Oscar nominations, her glorified career has earned her well-deserved star power.

Past honorees of The Black & White Ball read like a who's who of legendary women.  Since 2001, Nevada Ballet Theatre has honored Debbie Reynolds (2001), Chita Rivera (2002), Carol Channing (2003) Celine Dion (2004), Ann-Margret (2005), Rita Rudner (2006), Paula Abdul (2007) and most recently, Twyla Tharp (2008).

Proceeds from the evening will allow Nevada Ballet Theatre to continue to provide main stage productions by its professional company, quality dance training within its affiliated school, the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, as well as through its Education and Outreach program, Future Dance.
