Join the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and the Las Vegas Mass Choir, under the direction of James R. Smith, as they present a gospel-filled musical event performing traditional and urban contemporary gospel music. This musical tribute will honor recognized leaders in the community whose contributions continue the life-long legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Las Vegas Mass Choir is a body of 20 like-minded singers who love Jesus and love to sing about Him. In May 2005, the group was honored with the "Choir of the Year" award at the 4th annual Hollywood Gospel Insider Awards in Hollywood, Calif. Since then, the choir has performed on several television shows, including "I Gospel," in Charlotte, N.C., "Jeff Majors Gospel of Music," in Los Angeles, "Bobby Jones Summit" in Nantucket, Conn., and "Heavenly Sent" on the WORD Network in Las Vegas. In 2006, they received the Las Vegas Black Music Award for Best Performance by a Choir. In May 2007, the group headlined sold-out performances at the Melbourne Jazz Festival in Australia. Ranging in age from 22 to 56, they perform monthly in Las Vegas at the House of Blues Sunday Gospel Brunch at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
