Help Support the 5-Year-Old Festival!
May 2, 2008 6:00 pm -10:00 pm
MAYOR OSCAR GOODMAN SUPPORTS First Friday
Downtown's Arts District's event is turning to the community and asking for support. Beginning in February, volunteers started asking for a $2 donation from First Friday attendees. And the community responded! Visitors willingly opened up their hearts and wallets to the popular event.
In April responding to First Friday's call for support was our own Mayor Oscar Goodman. Whirlygig, the non-profit that produces First Friday, thanks him for donating money to keep Las Vegas' Favorite Community Arts Event the best in the greater Las Vegas area!
New El Cortez/First Friday Express Trolley
The El Cortez Hotel & Casino also joined with First Friday and is now sponsoring an Express Trolley. The trolley will take patrons from the El Cortez, 600 East Fremont Street at the Cortez Garden Gateway (with 1,200 free parking spaces in the garage and also valet) to the Main Street and Colorado Trolley Stop at First Friday (and back again). The bus will run from 6:00 p.m.(starting at the El Cortez) until 10:00 p.m. with the last First Friday stop at approximately 9:30 p.m. The historic El Cortez spent approximately $20 million in recent renovations and features a casino, restaurants, cocktail lounges and bars. "The merging of the Fremont East Entertainment District with the Arts District is an important step in reinforcing downtown as a cultural center of Las Vegas," said Mike Nolan, general manager of El Cortez Hotel & Casino. "Working with First Friday, we hope to help continue the revitalized interest in our city's artists, as well as increased interest in the architecture and renovation of classic downtown Las Vegas."
