Nevada's largest corn maze 25 minutes north of NLV to run from 5-8 p.m.

The 4th annual Haunted Corn Maze in Glendale in celebration of Nevada Day and Halloween is only 25 minutes north of North Las Vegas via I-15 and features an old-fashioned Coca-Cola bottle and kicks off with a BBQ on Friday, Oct. 5 from 5-8 p.m.

The official sponsor this year is the Coca-Cola Corp. who contacted the owners and wanted to put an old-fashioned Coca-Cola bottle in the corn maze this year and a deal was made. Coca-Cola is donating prizes. A spokesperson said, "Coca Cola contacted us and said that they liked our corn maze for the past three years and would like to sponsor this year's event. We did Elvis, Vote 2004 and the Broken Spoke Saloon for the past three years. The Coca-Cola vendors who drop off the soda out there brought it to their attention."

Admission to the Glendale's haunted cornfield maze is $10 for adults, $8 for those 6 to 11 while ages 5 and under are free. The hours are Fridays and Saturday from 6-10 p.m. From Monday thru Thursday visitors will be by appointment. There will be all different sizes of pumpkins for sale this year for $2-$3 a pumpkin. The corn maze is 460-feet wide by 900-feet in length.

On Nevada Day, Friday, Oct. 26th an official state holiday there will be a BBQ and a country music band from 5 p.m. 'til the witching hour. While Nevada Day used to fall on Halloween the Governor's Office has changed it to fall on the last Friday of October beginning two years ago so many of the government offices will be closed and this will provide an afternoon of fun and great food.  For only $8 per person including parking, you will get a hamburger or hot dog, corn on the cob, baked potato and a soda. Drinks will be available and the Broken Spoke Saloon will be open. There's a even a place to stay with reservations. It's like the Bates Motel. You can stay over for the events. The final night will be Saturday, Oct. 26th. For corn lovers, they will be roasting fresh corn on the cob every Friday and Saturday night.

Costumes are not required but be prepared for ghouls, ghosts and goblins. Friday night will be 7-10 p.m. and Saturdays will be free from noon 'til 7 and then admission from 7-10 p.m. when the haunting begins.

Here are some tips to enjoy the experience: (1) Wear shoes for outdoors such as you would wear for running and hiking. (2) Bring a flashlight you won't have the bright lights of Las Vegas. (3) There's no need to bring munchies because there's a restaurant on site after you find your way out. (4) Stay with your friends – you don't want to get lost in the dark. (5) Go to the restrooms located there before you enter the maze. (6) Plan on spending one hour to get thru the corn maze. (7) Children must be accompanied by adult at all times. (8) Wear warm clothes just in case the nights get chilly.

Picture this: You pack the children in the car and head north to Exit 90 on I-15 making a right to the gas station and the entrance of Nevada's first corn maze is next to the motel. It's a work in progress and the birth of a new city with plenty of water and land for housing development. Las Vegas raw land prices are going for $300,000-$600,000 which has driven up the cost of housing.

Take I-15 north to Exit 90 and look for a motel that looks like the Bates Motel and you know that you've found it. It's at East Glendale Boulevard. The web site is www.glendalecornmaze.com. For further information call Beverly at (702) 864-2277.

Within the next few years a new community in the Moapa Valley will spring up only 25 minutes north of North Las Vegas. Each year there is a theme and this year it's "Coca-Cola."

The community project is the brainchild of Randy Aleman, Wes Adam, Larry Miller and Todd Larkin. The housing developments on the drawing boards will be marketed to the middle-class and those who want to pay affordable housing prices that existed four years ago in Las Vegas before the housing inflation boom making it cost prohibitive for some families to own a home. Aleman emphasized, "You will be getting a bigger home on a bigger lot in rural Glendale."

The community is meant to attract families who want to get out of the crime and pollution of the big city and have the same benefits with energy efficient new homes. There will be a hospital, a school and a shopping center on what used to be a pit stop between Las Vegas and Mesquite.  The 20-acre corn maze is four by five acres. The corn maze is not only for the fun of it but will attract people to become more familiar with the area and offer an outing for people while Southern Nevada is enjoying a mild climate.

Glendale is a work in progress since raw land prices in the Las Vegas Valley has soared to over $600,000 which has driven up the cost of housing.

When you enter the corn maze remember "Things go better with Coke!"
