Jan. 1 – Jan. 6 Bobby Miyamoto and Costaki Economopoulos
Originally from Boise, Idaho, Bobby Miyamoto first got his start in comedy while attending college at Arizona State University. While there, he developed his offbeat sense of humor. Since then, he has been performing at comedy clubs throughout the country. An up-and-coming comedian, Miyamoto boasts TV credits including Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," Animal Planet's "The A-List" and the syndicated show "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen."
Costaki Economopoulos got his start in comedy while working on his master's degree at the University of Georgia. When he wasn't working on his thesis, Economopoulos would perform stand-up at local pizza joints and bars. During that time, he realized his preference was to perform comedy and he hit the road after earning his master's degree. He now performs more than 40 weeks a year, and has performed stand up at the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. Economopoulos' career also includes writing and his work has appeared on numerous TV shows, including NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and MTV's "Parental Approval." He has also been a staff writer for two of BET network's shows, on Bette Midler's "Kiss My Brass" tour and he currently writes for "The Complete Sheet," a DJ prep service that goes to nearly 500 radio stations worldwide.
Jan. 7 – Jan. 13 Manny Maldonado and Andy Pitz
Manny Maldonado's journey to comedy wasn't planned. He learned of his knack for making people laugh while taking a speech and debate class in college, and accordingly withdrew from school to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. For the past 10 years, he has worked from coast to coast in top comedy clubs as well as overseas. Maldonado has also opened for today's leading comedians, including Dave Chappelle, Dave Attell, Paul Rodriguez and George Lopez, among others. His TV credits include BET's "Comic View" and the syndicated show "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen," as well as on comedy tours including Que Locos Live Comedy Tour and the Latino Laugh Festival. In 2007, Maldonado was added to the "Crown Royal Latin Kings of Comedy" tour.
Andy Pitz, formerly known as Andy Vastola, has worked the comedy circuit for more than 16 years. His comedic style can best be described as a more modern form of observational comedy, mixed with stories of married life, living in the big city (New York) and pointing to the sometimes hidden absurdities that saturate the world. His TV appearances include CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson." Pitz prides himself on writing his own material, and keeping it clean so all audiences can enjoy.
Jan. 14 – Jan. 20 Dan Gabriel and Jimmy Dore
Filipino funnyman Dan Gabriel is well-known for his laid back, clean and irreverent style of humor. His comedy routine ranges from general stand-up to interacting with the audience. His diverse career has allowed him to perform on the stage, on the screen and behind the scenes writing. Gabriel has been featured on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," NBC's "Friday Night!" and AZN TV's "Asian Street Comedy." He is also the writer behind BBC America's "Thugs on Film" of which the episode "Gladiator" won Best Animated Short at the 2002 Santa Monica Film Festival.
Jimmy Dore was born into a Catholic family of 12 in a predominately blue-collar neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. Dore turned to comedy at a young age and in 1995, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue TV. It worked and he has appeared on every major network multiple times, including AMC's "Movies at My House," NBC's "Friday Nights" and "Late Friday," CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" and on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" and "Make Me Laugh," among others. The high point of Dore's stand-up career thus far came when he taped his own half-hour comedy special for Comedy Central. Dore is also a writer and performer for the critically acclaimed Off Broadway hit, The Marijuana-logues, which is currently running at the Actor's Playhouse in New York. He has also performed at numerous comedy festivals including the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.
