HBO and AEG Live today announced that Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld will headline back-to-back Colosseum shows at the third annual The Comedy Festival (TCF), November 14-17 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. With TBS returning as title sponsor, TCF will continue its tradition of presenting comedy's biggest stars and cutting-edge talent. The four-day event will feature multi-artist performances, tributes, stand-up and sketch comedy, and televised special events, taking place in a variety of venues throughout Caesars Palace.
In its first two years, more than 100,000 people attended The Comedy Festival. Highlights from past years included stand-up performances by Jon Stewart, Dave Chappelle, Dane Cook, Bill Maher, Carlos Mencia, and Sarah Silverman with Zach Galifianakis and Brian Posehn. Special events included presentations of The Comedian Award to Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's "Poopapalooza," "The Lucky 21" which featured top up-and-coming comedians from across the nation, and Don Rickles' receipt of the first Caesars Palace Laurel Award. 2006 welcomed the 20th anniversary of "Comic Relief," starring Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams, with special appearances by Ray Romano, Jimmy Kimmel, George Lopez, Rosie O'Donnell and the cast of Entourage, which was simulcast on HBO and TBS; and "A Salute to the Troops and USO" with D.L. Hughley, Frank Caliendo, Louis CK, Jay Mohr and special guests Kid Rock and Carmen Electra. Additional television highlights featured on TBS included 2005's "Earth to America" with Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Larry David, Steve Martin and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and "Pit Stop Comedy." The Comedy Festival evolved from the foundation HBO laid out at the annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. Joining forces with live event producer AEG Live and title sponsor TBS, HBO presented the inaugural TCF in 2005. "With the support of our partners, the enthusiasm of the comedy community and a little bit of Lady Luck, The Comedy Festival has found a great long-term home at Caesars Palace," said Bob Crestani, CEO of The Comedy Festival. "Chris and Jerry's stand-up performances capture the energy and standard of excellence that our audiences demand, and we are thrilled to present." "The Comedy Festival has been an exciting event for us," said John Meglen, co-CEO of AEG Live. "After such great success in our first two years, we are committed to providing a third event that builds on this excitement and exceeds expectations of our fans." "We are thrilled to welcome The Comedy Festival back to Caesars Palace for its third consecutive year," said Gary Selesner, president of Caesars Palace. "Caesars Palace has been hosting the most exciting special events in the world for over 40 years, and The Comedy Festival makes Las Vegas the center of the comedy universe each year, attracting both the superstars and the up-and-comers of comedy. It's an event our guests love, and it gives us a chance to let our hair down at Caesars Palace and have a little fun." "TBS is proud to be serving as presenting sponsor once again for The Comedy Festival, which has quickly become the Olympics of the comedy world," said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. "We look forward to another spectacular gathering of the world's top comedic talents and the many opportunities we will have to showcase their work for our audience of comedy lovers." "Las Vegas is one of the greatest entertainment showcases on Earth, and we are looking forward to presenting a stellar program with TCF this year," said Carmi Zlotnik, executive vice president of New Media Programming for HBO. The 2007 TCF producers will announce a full festival line-up, special events and ticket information within the next couple of months.
