What Kind Of People Live In Las Vegas?
Mobsters, crooks, and drug addicts. (If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you).
For the most part, everyday normal people. However, this area still is a little bit of the "wild west" with a live-and-let-live attitude. If you believe in saving the whales, banning smoking, and otherwise imposing your moral or environmental beliefs on others through legislation, this probably isn't the right place for you.
We have people who get off work at 4:00 AM and we have no problem with them grabbing an after work beer or buying liquor in the grocery store as the sun comes up.
Doesn't This Lead To All Kinds Of Social Problems?
Surprisingly, not much more than you will find anywhere else. This town has a way of weeding people out. Those who move here and drink and gamble all the time soon find themselves broke and without work and end up going back to where they came from. Even those with some control can still be tempted.
Should You Move Here?
If you consider moving here because you like to gamble (even if you are retired or can hold a good job), think again. Just come visit. You'll find it too easy to get sucked into gambling too much, too often. If you are moving here because you love sunshine, lower taxes, golfing, boating, hiking or other outdoor activities then this might be the place for you.
As for living in the desert, it has advantages. Get tired of the crowds? Driving 45 minutes in just about any direction away from town will have you out in the middle of nowhere, clear and peaceful and quiet.
A weekend at the river? Laughlin is 90 miles south. A weekend of resort, spa, and golf? Mesquite is 80 miles north. Both just far enough to get out of the city for a change of pace but an quick jaunt.
Want to adventure on old Route 66? Route 66 and the infamous cowboy town (also working ghost town) of Oatman is two hours south.
Much of Arizona and Southern California are 4-6 hours away by car so you can be on the playing in the surf in San Diego, enjoying a spa in Scottsdale, or meditating in Sedona on any given weekend.
