Buy well in advance, but remember: some tickets are not released more than
three months ahead. Keep checking back. For reserved seat shows (most Las Vegas shows),

21 To Gamble
You must be 21 to gamble in Las Vegas, period.
Every very few years, a minor hits a jackpot and can't claim it. Don't think you can play, then call someone older over if you hit. They have video cameras all over the place. Don't think you can claim the jackpot with fake ID. You need to give them government issued ID or a passport and a (if a US resident) a Social Security number.
Where Should I Gamble?
If we knew that, we'd quit our jobs here at this fine website and live in a casino! Seriously speaking, your odds on slots are better downtown or around town at the local's casinos. Why? The Strip hotels have to maintain those expensive, beautiful casinos and know that many will never visit downtown or other area casinos.
Downtown casinos need to let you win more (or at least play longer) so you enjoy it and come back and see them. They know that you are probably staying on The Strip and they want to see you downtown every trip. Locals who gamble can drive a few minutes to a number of casinos in their area of town and play enough to get a feel for where their money lasts longer.
Table games are different. For the most part, the rules and odds of winning are very similar no matter where you play. The only glaring exception is to not play blackjack games that pay off 6 - 5 for a blackjack. Normal games pay 3 - 2 for black jack (7.5 - 5). Past that, a craps table is pretty much a craps table. Same with blackjack. Same with roulette. So you might as well play in the nicest casino you can afford the table limits at!
But I heard that if you play a double deck blackjack game where they don't hit soft 17 and allow multiple re-splits you gain a certain fraction of a percentage advantage blah, blah, blah ... .
Yes, there are small nuances in table games that make a fraction of a percent difference in house edge (the average amount of money a casino will win from you over time at a certain bet amount). If you are a casual visitor, it probably isn't worth your time to learn them. If you want, most major bookstores are full of thick books that get into the math of the game.
